Spotlighting Success

Meet Mitch – A United States Veteran

By November 7, 2016 No Comments

At Any Baby Can we would like to take a moment to recognize the hard work and dedication of America’s veterans. It is through their service, strength and heroism that as a nation we stand united and safe.

Today, we spotlight our very own veteran, Mitchell Groke, who is a Development Associate at Any Baby Can. Mitch served as a Navy Combat Corpsman with the Marines for seven years. Mitch deployed to Iraq in 2006 and later deployed to Afghanistan in 2009. He was honorably discharged in 2012.

With funding from his service in the military, Mitch began attending Baylor University in the fall of 2012 and received his Bachelors of Arts in Psychology in 2015. During his time at Baylor, Mitch interned with the Baylor Development Department where his interest and passion for donor development first emerged.

Mitch has always had a personal connection to nonprofit organizations that help children, as he remembers the impact similar organizations made on his family after the unexpected death of his father when he was a child. With the encouragement of his internship supervisor at Baylor, Mitch began to seek further development opportunities in the nonprofit world. In August 2015, Mitch moved to Austin and found a great opportunity with Any Baby Can.

Mitchell currently serves as the Development Associate, with his main goal being to cultivate relationships with donors who are an integral and essential component in supporting Any Baby Can. Without funding contributions from individual donors, Any Baby Can would be unable to serve more than 6,000 children and families each year.

Mitch doesn’t just give back to his community while on-the-job; he is also a coach of a youth football team of middle school-aged kids, the East Austin Yellow Jackets.

“I lost my father at a young age and I remember how football took on a lot more meaning during this time,” says Mitch. “It helped me process everything that was going on in my life at the time and also helped build a sense of family with my teammates and coaches.” Mitchell has made his team a priority in his daily life as he gives back and helps kids cope with their own young lives.

Mitch’s favorite work perk is the outreach and volunteer work he does. He regularly attends community events and helps out with initiatives that spread the mission of Any Baby Can throughout Central Texas.

Without employees like Mitch, Any Baby Can would be unable to help as many children and families as we do every day. For your service in the United States Navy and the work you do at Any Baby Can, we thank you, Mitch. We are very grateful for your impact on our team.
